Meghan Brown’s Journey from Trauma to Triumph: Justice Served After Manhattan Incident
Meghan Brown, a former analyst at JP Morgan, has been granted $35 million (approximately Rs 292 crore) in compensation following a distressing incident in Manhattan where a glass door shattered on her, resulting in permanent brain damage, as per reports.
The incident, which transpired in 2015, left Brown with severe injuries, altering the course of her life. A viral video capturing the moment depicts Brown pushing the glass door to exit a building, only for it to shatter, causing chaos as bystanders rush to her aid.
As a consequence of the traumatic brain injury sustained during the incident, Brown asserts that her career was irreparably harmed. She remained unemployed for a year before eventually returning to JP Morgan, where she worked until her termination in 2021.
After deliberation, the jury awarded Brown $35,184,208 in damages, holding the building owner, 271 Madison Co., accountable for negligence that significantly contributed to her injury. Brown’s legal representatives presented evidence of the extensive health issues she now faces, including PTSD, memory decline, sensitivity to light, cognitive difficulties, chronic headaches, neck pain, balance issues, and distorted depth perception. To manage her condition, Brown has enlisted the help of a service dog to mitigate the risk of further falls.
Despite the immense challenges she has encountered, Brown has demonstrated resilience, transitioning to entrepreneurship by founding a gelato business following her tenure at JP Morgan, and later working for a cryptocurrency company.
The substantial compensation awarded to Brown underscores the severity of the incident and its enduring repercussions on her life. It serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative to uphold safety standards in public spaces, ensuring accountability and promoting the well-being of all individuals.
