Dubai RTA To Build 762 Public Bus Shelters In Dubai By 2025; Here’s All About It

The Dubai Road & Transport Authority took to its official account on X (formerly Twitter) to announce that it will be constructing 762 public bus shelters by 2025 in Dubai. Yes, announced on December 24, the post revealed that these shelters will boast a stylish design and will offer an aesthetic appeal.

762 Public Bus Shelters To Come Up In Dubai By 2025

With the completion set for 2025, the project by Dubai RTA aims to use 3D printing technology. For this, some shelters are being constructed on a trial basis in collaboration with a company. As it happens, they are also going to integrate structural elements that will also enhance its overall architectural design.

These Shelters Will Come Up In Key Locations

These shelters will be coming up in key areas that have been selected on the basis of several parameters. Some of these include high population density areas, the current and future operational needs of public bus service, adequate infrastructure, and space within the right-of-way, to name a few.

The bus shelters have been categorized into four tiers on the basis of the number of users for each stop. These include –

  • Main Stop – Serving more than 750 passengers daily.
  • Secondary Stop – Accommodating 250 to 750 passengers daily.
  • Primary Stop – Serving 100 to 250 passengers daily.
  • Pick-up/Drop-off Station – Used by approximately 100 passengers daily.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the main stops will be air-conditioned, and all bus shelters will feature shaded outdoor areas and advertising spaces. Moreover, they will be equipped with information screens that will display schedules, pick-up timings, and other passenger-related information.

As it happens, Mattar Al Tayer, who is the Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, revealed that the construction of such shelters was a part of the Dubai RTA’s efforts to improve public transport services. It will also provide an integrated and reliable infrastructure that will bring happiness to the residents of Dubai. The design of the new shelters is also compatible with the Dubai Code for people of determination. Yes, these will include wheelchair-accessible areas as well!
