BAPS Hindu Temple: A Monument of Harmony Rises in UAE’s Abu Dhabi

In a groundbreaking development, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is gearing up for the grand unveiling of its first Hindu temple in February. Situated just outside Abu Dhabi, the BAPS Hindu Temple stands not only as a testament to architectural marvel but also as a symbol of unity and cultural exchange. The temple, built at a cost of 700 crores, is a monumental achievement for the ‘Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha’ (BAPS) organization.

Architectural Marvel of BAPS Hindu Temple

The BAPS organization, renowned for its devotion to Swaminarayan, has previously constructed over 1,100 Hindu temples worldwide. The BAPS Hindu Temple in UAE showcases Vedic architectural principles, utilizing rose-colored sandstone and marble. Soaring at 108 feet, the temple boasts intricate carvings and sculptures, blending artistry and spirituality seamlessly.

Construction Journey and Foundation Stone

The journey began in 2015 when the foundation stone for the temple was laid during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UAE. Spanning 17 acres, a gift from the UAE President during PM Modi’s visit, the construction site involves the active participation of over 50,000 individuals, including dignitaries like India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Sanjay Dutt, and Akshay Kumar. The final stages of construction are in progress, with the temple slated to open in February 2024.

Unique Features of BAPS Hindu Temple

This architectural gem incorporates unique features, such as seven shikhars (spires) symbolizing the seven Emirates of the UAE, emphasizing unity. The temple complex includes a cultural center, an exhibition center, and playgrounds for children, creating a multifaceted space for spiritual and cultural engagement.

Grand Inauguration and Festival of Harmony

The grand inauguration, scheduled for February 15, 2024, will witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key leaders from Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Leading up to the official opening, a two-hour-long ‘Festival of Harmony’ will commence on February 10, involving active participation from the Indian community, fostering cultural exchange and goodwill.
