Expanding Revenue Base: PCMC Includes Over 25,000 Properties in Tax Ambit

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has successfully brought more than 25,000 properties under its property tax ambit in the fiscal year 2022-23, bringing the total number of properties to 6.02 lakh. The addition of these properties is expected to contribute significantly to the PCMC’s tax revenue, with a target of recovering Rs 1,000 crore in property tax during the current fiscal year.

Over the past five years, the number of properties in the city has been steadily increasing. In 2017, the PCMC had 4.5 lakh properties within its limits, which rose to 5.4 lakh in the 2020-21 fiscal year. This growth can be attributed to the establishment of numerous multinational companies and the consequent influx of people from across the country seeking employment opportunities in the area.

Nilesh Deshmukh, the head of the PCMC’s tax department, highlighted that the areas of Wakad, Chikhli, Moshi, Kiwale, Charholi, Thergaon, Sangvi, Bhosari, and Dighi-Bopkhel have witnessed the highest growth rates in terms of property tax division. This surge in property development is indicative of the city’s appeal due to the presence of wide roads, parks, playgrounds, and other essential amenities.

PCMC civic chief Shekhar Singh acknowledged that the higher growth rate of properties in Pimpri Chinchwad compared to surrounding areas can be attributed to the availability of infrastructure and basic facilities. He emphasized that PCMC faces two major challenges, namely ensuring an adequate water supply and promoting sustainable development. These priorities will be addressed accordingly, with a focus on collecting necessary information through the new survey to identify the needs of the growing population and facilitate planned development.

The addition of over 25,000 properties to the PCMC’s property tax ambit reflects the city’s expanding urban landscape and economic growth. The increased tax revenue will enable the civic body to further invest in the development and enhancement of essential services and infrastructure, benefiting both residents and businesses in the region.
