YouTube Music Introduces Auto-Add Feature to Last Playlist: Here’s How to Enable It

YouTube Music has unveiled a new feature that simplifies playlist management. The platform now automatically adds songs to the most recent playlist a user has used, making it easier to organize music.

When a user saves a song to a playlist, whether it’s an existing one or a new creation, the same playlist will become the default destination for any subsequent song saves. A notification will appear to inform users which playlist the song has been added to, and they can change the playlist by tapping the “Change” button at the bottom right of the screen.

This convenient functionality has long been available in the main YouTube app, where it remembers the last playlist to which a video was saved. Now, YouTube Music has integrated the same feature into its Android and iOS apps.

To enable or disable the auto-add feature in YouTube Music on the web and mobile, follow these steps:

How to Enable or Disable the Auto-Add Feature in YouTube Music

On the Web:

  1. Go to music.youtube.com in your web browser and sign in to your account.
  2. Click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select “Settings” from the menu.
  3. Click on “General” on the left side of the settings page. (Note: On mobile, this setting is located in the Recommendations section, not General.)
  4. Look for the toggle switch labeled “Remember last used playlist – Automatically save content to the last used playlist.” Click on it to turn the feature on or off.

On Mobile:

  1. Open the YouTube Music app on your smartphone and log in to your account.
  2. Tap on your profile picture at the top right corner and choose “Settings” from the menu.
  3. Tap on “Recommendations” on the left side of the settings page.
  4. Locate the option that says “Remember last used playlist – Automatically save content to the last used playlist.” Tap on it to enable or disable the feature.

In other news, YouTube is making changes to how it presents artists’ work on its apps. On the YouTube Music app, the previous separation of albums and singles on artist pages has been merged into a single section called “Top releases.” This section appears after the five most popular songs, showcasing the artist’s most popular tracks, latest albums, and singles. Users can tap on “More” to view all the artist’s works in a grid view and sort them by type, with the list arranged from newest to oldest by default.
