How to Check Gold Authenticity Using the Umang App: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Download the Umang App Ensure you have the Umang app installed on your smartphone. Download it from the PlayStore for Android phones or the App Store for iPhones.
Step 2: Register/Login on Umang Initiate the Umang app and navigate to the ‘Register/Login’ option on the home page. If you’re a new user, tap ‘Register here’ and follow the steps to verify your mobile number through an OTP. For existing users, simply log in with your credentials.
Step 3: Access the Verification Feature Once you’re logged in, locate the search bar within the Umang app and enter ‘Verify HUID.’ Select the first result provided by BIS Care.
Step 4: Enter Hallmark Number Retrieve the hallmark number or Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number from your gold coin or item. Enter this number in the Umang app’s verification section.
Step 5: Tap on Verify After entering the hallmark number, tap on the ‘Verify’ option. The app will process the information and provide you with the crucial details regarding the gold’s authenticity.
Step 6: Review the Details Upon verification, the Umang app will furnish details such as the Jeweler Registration number, Hallmarking Centre information, purity specifics, date of hallmarking, and outlet name. These details serve as a confirmation that your gold is genuine.
Step 7: Take Action if Necessary If, unfortunately, the Umang app doesn’t display the expected details, indicating potential issues with the gold’s authenticity, you can take action. Lodge a complaint by reaching out via email to @bis.gov.in.
