Never Lose Your iPhone Again: Precision Finding with Apple Watch 9 and iPhone 15

Apple’s Enhanced iPhone 15 and Apple Watch 9 Offer Precision Finding

The convenience of using your Apple Watch to locate your misplaced iPhone has been a game-changer for Apple users. With the introduction of the iPhone 15 series and the Apple Watch 9 & Ultra 2, Apple has elevated this feature with “Precision Finding.” Now, not only will your iPhone make a sound when pinged with your Apple Watch, but you can also pinpoint its exact location. In this article, we’ll guide you on how to harness the power of Precision Finding to locate your iPhone 15 or 15 Pro using your Apple Watch.

How Precision Finding Works on Apple Watch 9 & Ultra 2

At the Wonderlust launch event, Apple unveiled that the Apple Watch 9 and Ultra models are equipped with the same advanced Ultra Wideband chip featured in the latest iPhone 15 and 15 Pro lineup. The all-new “U2 Ultra Wideband chip” is the key component that enables your Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 to provide precise directions for locating your iPhone 15 through Precision Finding.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a wireless communication protocol, similar to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi but with distinct advantages. It operates at extremely high frequencies across a broad spectrum of GHz frequencies, allowing it to capture highly accurate spatial and directional data.

How to Locate iPhone with Apple Watch Precision Finding

To use the Precision Finding feature, you will need an Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2, along with any model from the iPhone 15 lineup. Here’s how it works:

  1. Unlock your Apple Watch and access the Control Center by pressing the Side Button. It’s worth noting that Apple has made changes to the Control Center in watchOS 10.
  2. In the Control Center, find and tap the “Ping iPhone” tile. If your iPhone 15 is within the range of your Apple Watch, it will emit a sound.
  3. Unlike the traditional “Ping My iPhone” feature on older models, the Precision Finding feature provides a more immersive experience. Your Apple Watch Series 9 will display a starry circle with the distance to your iPhone.
  4. As you move toward your iPhone, the starry circle will gradually transform into a black circle, indicating the direction and distance to your device.
  5. When you get closer to your iPhone, the black circle screen will transition into a green screen featuring a white circle at its center. This white circle will display the precise distance between your Apple Watch and your iPhone.
  6. Throughout the Precision Finding process, your Apple Watch will provide continuous haptic feedback, confirming that the feature is actively working.
  7. The middle of the screen will display a “✅” once your iPhone has been successfully located, and the haptic feedback will cease.

With Precision Finding, you’ll no longer need to frantically search your surroundings or turn your living space upside down to find your misplaced iPhone. This innovation streamlines the process and enhances user experience.
