Canceling train tickets through IRCTC has been made incredibly simple, offering passengers a hassle-free experience whether they booked their tickets at a counter or online.

According to a spokesperson, IRCTC is committed to providing convenient ticket cancellation services to passengers, ensuring a seamless process through their online platform.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to cancel counter tickets online via the IRCTC website:

Step 1:

  • Visit the IRCTC website and navigate to the train section. Select “Cancel Ticket” followed by the “Counter Ticket” option.

Step 2:

  • Enter essential details such as the PNR number, train number, and captcha. Confirm your understanding by ticking the relevant box and click submit.

Step 3:

  • Upon submission, an OTP (one-time password) will be sent to the mobile number provided during booking.

Step 4:

  • Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number to confirm the cancellation request.

Step 5:

  • Review the displayed PNR details and revenue information. Proceed by clicking “Cancel Ticket” for complete cancellation. The total refund amount will be indicated.

Step 6:

  • After cancellation, you’ll receive an SMS containing the PNR number and refund details on your registered mobile number.

IRCTC rules for counter ticket cancellation include:

  • Providing a valid mobile number during booking for cancellation purposes.
  • Cancellation is permitted up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure for fully confirmed tickets.
  • For RAC and waitlist tickets, cancellation is allowed up to 30 minutes before departure.
  • Passengers are eligible for a full refund if the train gets canceled by PRS within three days of the scheduled departure.

To cancel an e-ticket, passengers can do so online via the internet. For counter tickets, passengers can cancel them through the IRCTC website or by contacting railway inquiry at 139 or sending an SMS.

Cancellation processing time typically takes 3 to 7 working days for refunds. With IRCTC, canceling train tickets is quick and straightforward, ensuring a smooth journey for all passengers.
