Aadhaar Card Photo Update: Your Guide to a Fresh Identity Picture Online

Your Aadhaar card is an essential document, enabling access to a wide array of government and non-government services. However, there might come a time when you feel the need to change the photo on your Aadhaar card due to reasons like photo quality issues, an outdated appearance, or discrepancies with other identification documents. In such cases, updating your Aadhaar photo is crucial. While many Aadhaar-related activities can now be done online, photo updates, unfortunately, require a physical visit to an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This article provides you with a step-by-step guide on how to change your photo on your Aadhaar card, ensuring your identity picture accurately reflects your current self.

1. Download the Form:

  • Begin by downloading the Aadhaar Enrolment/Correction/Update Form from the UIDAI website or obtain it from the nearest Aadhaar centre.
  • To download the form online, visit the Aadhaar website and select your preferred language. Navigate to “My Aadhaar,” scroll down to “Downloads,” and click on “Enrolment and Update form for Adult Residents.”

2. Complete the Form:

  • Fill out the form diligently, ensuring all the required details are accurate. Be sure to mark the section indicating a photo update.

3. Visit the Centre:

  • Take the filled form to the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
  • When you arrive at the centre, you will be asked to provide your biometric details, including an iris scan, fingerprints, and a new facial photograph.

4. Pay the Fee:

  • A fee of Rs 100, inclusive of GST, is required for the photo update service. Please make this payment at the centre.

5. Keep the Acknowledgement Slip:

  • After completing the necessary steps, you will receive an acknowledgment slip containing your Update Request Number (URN).
  • You can use the URN to track the status of your photo update request. Simply visit the UIDAI website or call the toll-free number 1947. Once the request is processed, you will be able to download your updated Aadhaar card online or receive it by post.

While you’re at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra, you also have the option to update other details on your Aadhaar card, such as your name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, and email ID. However, please note that only your address can be updated online, and this requires a valid address proof or an Address Validation Letter.

In addition to maintaining the accuracy of your Aadhaar information, it’s essential to stay informed about potential security risks, especially with Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS). Recent instances of fraudulent activities, like unauthorized access to bank accounts and data breaches, have raised concerns. To safeguard yourself from such scams, consider the following safety measures:

  1. Be cautious about sharing sensitive information with unknown callers or online entities.
  2. Never provide your OTP or password to anyone, regardless of their claims.
  3. Verify the credentials and authenticity of individuals or organizations requesting your Aadhaar-related information.
  4. Keep an eye on your bank statements and report any suspicious activity immediately.

By staying vigilant and following these guidelines, you can protect your Aadhaar information and ensure your identity remains secure.
