Google’s Fitbit App Redesign: A Fresh Look for Health Enthusiasts

Google is giving the Fitbit app a fresh new look with a redesigned interface inspired by its unified design language, Material You, introduced alongside Android 12. The updated app is set to launch for Android and iOS users later this year.

The revamped design aims to make the Fitbit app more user-friendly and visually appealing. It adopts a three-tab layout to reduce clutter and improve ease of use. The three tabs are “Today,” “Coach,” and “You,” each providing access to different activities and metrics.

The “Today” tab consolidates users’ preferred stats and metrics in one place. It also allows customization of displayed stats to align with individual fitness goals. In addition to showing daily progress, users can view health trends over the past month or year through charts, graphics, and icons.

Moving on to the “Coach” tab, it offers specially curated workout and mindfulness sessions to provide users with motivation and guidance. Users can filter these workouts based on their availability, equipment ownership, and overall fitness objectives. Fitbit Premium subscribers can enjoy even more exclusive content, including exciting dance cardio classes.

The “You” tab is all about personalization and progress tracking. Users can view their achievement badges and metrics, connect with other Fitbit users, and update their personal information. Google assures users that their data will not be used for targeted advertising, prioritizing privacy and security.

Importantly, the app redesign will not impact the availability of features for free and premium subscribers. Google is currently testing the new version with a select group of Fitbit users as a beta product, with a global launch planned for later this year. Additionally, more updates and changes are expected for the platform in the future.

Looking ahead, Fitbit users will need to log in using their Google credentials starting next year, as the Fitbit brand is being phased out. However, existing Fitbit users have until 2025 to complete the transition. While the switch to a Google Account is not mandatory immediately, users who fail to make the move by the deadline risk losing access to their Fitbit app data and health insights.

In a blog post, Google shared, “If you’re an existing Fitbit user, you will have the option to move your Fitbit experience to a Google Account. You aren’t required to move to a Google Account immediately, but will need to move by 2025.”

With the redesigned Fitbit app and the integration of Google’s expertise, users can expect a seamless and improved experience, making it easier to stay on top of their health and fitness goals. The combination of cutting-edge design and privacy-conscious policies promises to enhance the overall Fitbit experience for users worldwide.
