Enhancing Healthcare for Warkaris: Government Organizes Mega Health Camp at Pandharpur

The government of Maharashtra is set to launch a massive health camp from June 27 to 29, aimed at providing free medical services to approximately 1 million warkaris at the revered temple town of Pandharpur in Solapur. This initiative is being undertaken in preparation for the upcoming Ashadi Ekadashi festival, which holds great significance for the devotees.

In anticipation of the event, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Health Minister Tanaji Sawant recently visited the camp site located on the outskirts of Pandharpur. The camp is equipped to provide specialized medical services in various fields such as gynaecology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, and more. Notably, individuals requiring spectacles will receive them free of charge, ensuring improved vision for those in need. State health officials have been actively involved in organizing these provisions.

To ensure the efficient functioning of the camp, a large medical team comprising over 4,000 to 5,000 specialists, paramedics, attendants, and support staff has been deployed. A dedicated war room has been established and is being closely monitored by senior health department officials and nodal officers from various districts. This meticulous setup guarantees that the medical needs of the warkaris are addressed promptly and effectively.

Earlier, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced an insurance cover for the warkaris participating in the procession. As per tradition, Ashadi Ekadashi will be celebrated on June 29, and the Chief Minister will personally offer his prayers at the temple on this auspicious occasion.

Officials reported that since June 6, more than 280,000 warkaris have already received medical treatment for a range of ailments, including fatigue, and have been provided with essential medicines. In order to prevent any major health crises, medical teams have been stationed every two kilometers along the procession route. Dr. Radhakrishna Pawar, Deputy Director (Health) of the Pune circle, which includes Pune, Satara, and Solapur, stated that apart from the 108 ambulance services, there are also two-wheeler services available to ensure prompt medical aid. These measures are designed to alert authorities to any difficulties encountered by the warkaris during the procession.

The government’s mega health camp for warkaris at Pandharpur serves as a commendable initiative, prioritizing the well-being of devotees during the significant Ashadi Ekadashi festival. By providing free medical services and essential care, the government aims to ensure a safe and healthy experience for all participants.
