UIDAI Extends Deadline: Update Aadhaar Details Online for Free Until June 14, 2024

Ensuring Accuracy and Security: A Guide to Free Aadhaar Card Updates and Document Uploads

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension of the deadline for Aadhaar cardholders to update their details online at no cost. Residents now have until June 14, 2024, to ensure the accuracy and security of their Aadhaar information. This move aims to facilitate smoother government services, prevent fraud, and enhance data integrity.

UIDAI, responsible for issuing Aadhaar numbers to Indian residents, emphasizes the importance of updating Aadhaar details regularly. By linking biometric information to Aadhaar, the system prevents duplication and strengthens security measures. Therefore, updating demographic details such as name, address, and contact information is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the Aadhaar ecosystem.

Key benefits of updating Aadhaar details include:

  1. Accuracy: Ensuring that personal information is up-to-date minimizes errors during authentication processes.
  2. Improved Services: Updated Aadhaar data facilitates the seamless delivery of government services and benefits.
  3. Security: Validating demographic information enhances Aadhaar’s security features and helps detect fraudulent activities.

It is essential for individuals with Aadhaar cards older than 10 years to update their Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. Additionally, parents must update their child’s biometric details at ages 5 and 15. The process for updating children’s Aadhaar cards, known as Baal Aadhaar, is the same as for adults.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to updating Aadhaar details online for free until June 14, 2024:

  1. Visit the myAadhaar portal: Access the UIDAI’s official website and log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP received on your registered mobile number.
  2. Review existing details: Verify the accuracy of your identity and address details displayed on your profile.
  3. Upload documents: If any information requires correction, select the specific document (POI/POA) and upload a scanned copy in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format (less than 2 MB).
  4. Consent for update: Once documents are uploaded, submit your consent for the update.

Details that can be updated for free include:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of Birth/Age
  • Gender
  • Mobile Number
  • Email Address
  • Relationship Status
  • Information Sharing Consent

While demographic information can be updated online, biometric features such as facial photograph, iris, or fingerprints require verification at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

For offline updates, follow these steps:

  1. Locate Aadhaar Enrolment Centres: Visit the Aadhaar locator website or search by PIN code to find nearby enrolment centres.
  2. Visit the centre: Bring required documents and follow instructions for updating Aadhaar details.

It’s important to note that a fee of Rs. 50 is applicable for updates made at Aadhaar centres.
