Telangana Government Extends ₹5 Lakh Accident Insurance to Gig Workers in Landmark Announcement

Revanth Reddy has declared a groundbreaking ₹5 lakh accident insurance for workers in the gig economy. This announcement, coupled with a ₹10 lakh health cover under the Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme, marks a milestone in the state’s commitment to supporting those in unorganized sectors.

Key Highlights:

  1. Insurance Benefits: Gig workers, including those in food delivery, cab services, and autorickshaws, will be entitled to ₹5 lakh accident insurance.
  2. Health Coverage: An additional health cover of ₹10 lakh under the Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme will further strengthen the social security net for gig workers.
  3. Legislation Commitment: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed the state government’s commitment to studying Rajasthan’s policy for gig workers and introducing an effective law in the next state budget session.
  4. Financial Assistance: A financial assistance of ₹2 lakh was announced for the family of a deceased food delivery executive who tragically lost his life four months ago.
  5. Application Process: Gig workers, cab and autorickshaw drivers, and food delivery officers are advised to submit their applications, either online or physically, during the Gram Sabhas scheduled from December 28 to January 6.
