Maharashtra’s Special Gesture: Public Holiday on September 29th

In an unprecedented move, the Maharashtra state government has declared Friday, September 29th, as a public holiday to facilitate crowd management and processions for both Ganesh Visarjan and Eid-e-Milad. Remarkably, both festivals coincide on the auspicious day of Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on Thursday, September 28th.

This decision follows a meeting between a delegation from the All India Khilafat Committee and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The delegation, consisting of MP Rahul Shewale, MLA Abu Azmi, MLA Raees Khan, and Naseem Khan, presented their request for the holiday to ensure a peaceful atmosphere and effective crowd control during the festivities.

Chief Minister Shinde has made a fervent appeal for disciplined and tranquil Ganesh Visarjan processions. He has also called upon the public to celebrate upcoming festivals such as Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali with a sense of unity and devotion. The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction with the efforts of the police in maintaining law and order during Ganeshotsav and praised the Ganesh mandals for their adherence to regulations.

In line with the state’s “Clean Maharashtra” campaign, Chief Minister Shinde has urged Ganesh Mandals to actively participate in keeping the surroundings clean after immersion. The campaign is dedicated to transforming villages and wards into garbage-free zones.

On the occasion of Eid-e-Milad, the Chief Minister extended his heartfelt wishes, underscoring the life of Prophet Muhammad as a symbol of sacrifice and love. He called upon people to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s life, fostering mutual respect and love in society.
