In a recent setback for Rockstar Games, reports suggest a significant leak involving the complete source code of Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5), alongside alleged GTA 6 codes and files related to a potential sequel to the 2006 game, Bully. The leak, surfacing amid the anticipation for GTA 6, could have far-reaching consequences, including possible technical complications and delays in game launches.
YouTuber SKizzleAXE shared screenshots of the leaked information on X, unveiling the GTA 5 source code, which notably featured an early map for the game. The leak also hinted at GTA 6 being codenamed “Project Americas” at some point in its development. Additionally, files related to Bully 2, a speculated sequel to the original Bully game, were part of the exposed data.
Gaming Detective (@that1detectiv3) emphasized in an X post that the full extent of the leak remains unknown but warned of potential technical challenges that might affect upcoming game releases, particularly GTA 6. As of now, Rockstar Games has not issued a public statement addressing the reported leak.
This incident follows the sentencing of teenage hacker Arion Kurtaj last week, who played a role in leaking over 90 videos related to GTA 6 in September 2022. This leak was considered one of the largest in gaming history, resulting in Kurtaj being confined to an indefinite period in hospital prison based on a mental assessment.
In November this year, another leak exposed a database file from GTA 5, unveiling details related to Trevor, one of the main protagonists, and a jet pack. The leak also included strings connected to Bully 2, intensifying speculation about the rumored sequel. Despite longstanding rumors about Bully 2, no official announcement has been made by Rockstar Games.
This latest breach raises concerns within the gaming community about the security of highly anticipated titles like GTA 6 and the potential impact on release schedules.
