Gaming Innovation: Play as Thing from the Addams Family in ‘Where is My Body?

In the world of gaming, indie developers have consistently surprised us with their inventive creations. One such game that has recently captured our attention is “Where is My Body?” This unique project is the brainchild of Armenian studio Osvayder Games, who have taken the opportunity to let players step into the gloves of the iconic hand from the Addams Family, known as Thing, to complete a series of intriguing tasks.

During negotiations with the rights owner of the Addams Family franchise, Osvayder Games provided eager fans with a tantalizing glimpse of the game through an eye-catching gameplay trailer. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, “Where is My Body?” delivers graphics that are on par with what we’ve seen in the Addams Family movies and the latest Netflix series, “Wednesday.”

The gameplay trailer offers a glimpse of Thing’s hand exploring a variety of different locations, showcasing a style reminiscent of popular games like “Stray” and “Little Nightmares.” During exploration, players can interact with objects, open doors, and even employ slingshots. Notably, the trailer includes a segment where Thing brews a mysterious potion or mixture, possibly connected to a later scene where Thing briefly turns invisible. Customization plays a significant role in the game, as we witness Thing changing costumes and even adjusting its skin color.

Game Launch Update: Addams Family Approved?

Securing the rights to use the iconic character Thing was a pivotal aspect of bringing “Where is My Body?” to life. However, in recent negotiations, MGM, the rights holder for Thing, requested the removal of all elements in the game that bore a resemblance to the famous hand.

In response to this request, Osvayder Games, via their platform X (formerly Twitter), announced, “The rights holder demanded the removal of all materials related to the franchise. We, as responsible developers, complied with all the requirements and removed the results of our team’s many months of hard work. But we had a backup plan.”

This means that the game will still be launched, albeit with some adjustments. The hand might no longer be referred to as “Thing,” and there will be various tweaks to avoid copyright issues. While the decision was accepted by the developer, they also assured fans that an update might be on the horizon. The resurgence in the popularity of the Addams Family franchise, particularly with the return of the “Wednesday” series on Netflix for a second season, suggests that the game could garner significant attention upon its release.

As Osvayder Games has promised early access and a demo of the game, players can look forward to experiencing it firsthand and sharing their creative thoughts. Are you excited to embark on the quest to find your body in this intriguing Addams Family-inspired adventure?
