Subway’s Sweet Revolution: Footlong Churros and Desserts Divide Internet Opinion

Subway, the renowned fast-food sandwich chain, is stirring up controversy and excitement alike with its latest menu additions – footlong desserts. In a surprising move, Subway has launched footlong churros, cookies, and pretzels as part of their Subway sidekicks dessert initiative. While this sweet surprise has left many Subway enthusiasts thrilled, it has also sparked a divided response on the Internet.

The star attraction is the Cinnabon foot-long churro, priced at a mere $2, making history as the first-ever appearance of churros on Subway’s menu in its 59-year history. Accompanying this sweet debut are footlong cookies, available for $5, and an Auntie Anne’s footlong pretzel, priced at $3, served with Subway’s honey mustard sauce. These desserts have been officially confirmed to be permanent additions to Subway’s menu, as stated in a recent press release, and have been available for order since Monday, January 22.

Douglas Fry, president of Subway, North America, expressed excitement about the introduction of Sidekicks, stating, “This whole new category on our menu offers Subway fans something they can’t get anywhere else and kicks off a year of culinary innovation and delicious new menu items. 2024 may be the most exciting chapter yet in our growth story.”

Subway took to Instagram to share the news, encouraging fans to try the Cinnabon Churro, Auntie Anne’s Pretzel, and the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie, all a foot long and served warm, available nationwide.

However, the Internet’s response has been a mixed bag. Enthusiastic comments include users expressing excitement, with one jokingly mentioning bringing out a tape measure for the footlong cookies. On the flip side, criticism revolves around concerns about the impact on Subway’s image as a provider of ‘healthy fast food,’ with some linking the desserts to the obesity epidemic.

Subway’s footlong desserts have undeniably sparked a conversation, and opinions vary widely. What’s your take on Subway’s sweet revolution? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
