A Taste of History: Coach Restaurants to Transform Delhi’s Railway Experience

Northern Railway is on track to introduce a novel dining experience at four key stations in Delhi. The concept? Coach restaurants, offering passengers and visitors an opportunity to savor their meals in a unique setting. The railway authorities have already made their first stop, with a railway coach arriving at New Delhi railway station. Nestled in the VIP parking area at Ajmeri Gate, this coach will soon be transformed into a vibrant restaurant, inviting patrons to dine amidst the charm of railway history.

A Gastronomic Journey on Rails:

This exciting project brings a touch of innovation to New Delhi’s bustling railway stations, adding an element of nostalgia and novelty to the dining options. The railway coach, soon to be reborn as a restaurant, is expected to welcome its first guests by the end of October. However, the plans extend beyond New Delhi station, as similar coach restaurants are in the pipeline for Old Delhi, Anand Vihar, and Sarojini Nagar stations.

Inspired by Aviation:

The inspiration for this endeavor draws from the concept of aircraft restaurants located outside various airports. The Railway Ministry has identified strategic locations and issued tenders for the project, effectively setting the wheels in motion for a culinary adventure unlike any other.

National Trendsetter:

This initiative is part of a broader trend in India, where railway authorities are embracing the idea of coach restaurants at railway stations nationwide. The concept resonates with passengers and offers a unique perspective on dining experiences.

Upcoming Transformation:

With the coach now resting in its designated spot near Ajmeri Gate at New Delhi Railway Station, the next phase of the project is set to commence. Decoration work and preparations are underway to ensure that the coach restaurant is ready to welcome its first customers by October. Railway officials, deeply involved in the project, are optimistic about its success, anticipating that New Delhi Railway Station will pave the way, with the remaining three stations following suit by the end of this year.

As Delhi’s railway stations prepare to open their doors to these innovative coach restaurants, travelers and food enthusiasts alike can look forward to a new way of dining that merges history, culture, and culinary delights.
