Underdogs: Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft Offer Lower Salaries

On the flip side, Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft are not keeping pace with Google and Meta in terms of compensating their software engineers. These tech giants are falling behind when it comes to paying competitive salaries to their engineering workforce.

According to the report, Apple and Microsoft pay the least to their entry-level engineers, placing them at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts at Google and Meta.

Google Leads with Balanced Pay Bands

Google has gained recognition for maintaining one of the most balanced pay band structures in the industry. This means that it’s relatively rare for someone at a lower job level to earn more than a colleague at a higher level. Software engineers at Google occupy the top spot when it comes to base salary, maximum equity, and bonuses. Notably, the highest-paid software engineer at Google commanded a base salary of $325,000, and a senior vice president received an annual salary of $1,000,000, as per visa application data.
