Jain Spiritual Leader Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj Attains Samadhi at 77

In a solemn moment for the Jain community, Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj, often regarded as the gem of the community, peacefully attained Samadhi in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh. The revered spiritual leader, born on October 10, 1946, in Sadalga village of Karnataka, passed away at the age of 77 on the auspicious day of Sharad Purnima.

Acharya Vidyasagar’s spiritual journey was marked by his deep commitment to Jain principles and profound knowledge in classical (Sanskrit and Prakrit) and modern languages (Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada). At the age of 26, he ascended to the position of Acharya on November 22, 1972, succeeding his teacher Acharya Gyansagar.

Expressing grief on the news of Acharya Vidyasagar’s passing, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh and current CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan both acknowledged the profound impact the spiritual leader had on their lives. Chouhan highlighted Acharya Shri’s deep influence and described him as a living God, emphasizing that his divine presence in the form of a Guru will endure.

Last year, in November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought the blessings of Acharya Vidyasagar during his political campaign for the BJP in the state assembly elections.

As the Jain community mourns the loss of this spiritual luminary, Acharya Vidyasagar’s teachings and legacy of sacrifice, love, and divine guidance will continue to inspire generations.
