Spotlight on Stage: Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2024 Commences its Theatrical Extravaganza in Pune

Pune is set to host the grand inauguration of the world’s largest theater festival, ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2024,’ organized by the National School of Drama (NSD). Taking place from February 2 to 6 at the Shreeram Lagoo Ranga-Avakash, the festival will showcase a diverse array of theatrical performances under the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Vande Bharangam.’

Initiating on February 1, the festival will span 15 cities across the nation, culminating on February 21. The inauguration ceremony at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai will be graced by Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais and NSD Chairperson Paresh Rawal.

The festival’s anthem, penned by national award-winning singer Swanand Kirkire, resonates with the spirit of the event, with actor Pankaj Tripathi serving as its ambassador. The inaugural ceremony will feature the performance of “Taj Mahal ka Tender,” a play from the National School of Drama’s repertoire.

Fifteen plays from Maharashtra have been selected by the festival jury, with ten in Hindi, two in Marathi, two in English, and one in Urdu. The director of the National School of Drama emphasizes the crucial role of audience engagement for the success of theatre, encouraging a nationwide emulation of Maharashtra’s vibrant theatre culture. Celebrating its 25th year, Bharat Rang Mahotsav stands as the largest theatre festival globally.

International flair will be added to the festival with plays from Italy, Nepal, Russia, and five from Bangladesh, promising a rich and diverse cultural exchange on the stage.
