Pune Hosts Unique Astronomical Exhibition ‘Eyes on Space’ by Jyotirvidya Parisanstha

Pune, August 22nd, 2023: Jyotirvidya Parisanstha, an esteemed organization in the field of astronomy, has organized an exceptional exhibition titled “Eyes on Space.” This exhibition, dedicated to astronomy and space exploration, offers visitors a captivating journey into the world of space observatories and their pivotal role in unraveling the mysteries of the universe.

According to Aniruddha Deshpande, a member of Jyotirvidya Parisanstha, the primary objective of the exhibition is to shed light on the significance of space observatories in advancing our understanding of the cosmos. Throughout history, astronomers have used various instruments to observe the skies, beginning with the unaided eye. With the advent of telescopes, observatories equipped with these instruments emerged, significantly enhancing our ability to explore the universe.

As space exploration expanded, a new era of space observatories emerged, including renowned names such as the Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, Chandra Telescope, and the upcoming James Webb Telescope. These observatories capture observations across a wide range of electromagnetic waves, from gamma rays to radio waves. However, only visible light and radio waves can penetrate Earth’s atmosphere, necessitating the placement of telescopes in space to capture other wavelengths.

The “Eyes on Space” exhibition offers an insightful glimpse into the workings of space observatories, their contributions to deciphering cosmic puzzles, and their role in expanding human knowledge. The exhibition boasts models of space telescopes representing different wavelengths, informative posters, and enlightening short films. Among the highlights is India’s own solar observatory, “Aditya L1,” set to be launched next month.

Visitors can experience this enlightening exhibition from August 24th to August 27th, between 10 am and 8 pm, at the Yashvantrao Chavan Theatre Art Gallery. The exhibition welcomes people of all ages, with an entry fee of Rs 10/- for students up to 10th standard and Rs 20/- for attendees beyond that level. Pre-registration is mandatory, which can be done by scanning the QR code on the poster. This leads to a Google form where visitors can select their preferred time slots and make payments online or on-site.

Through the “Eyes on Space” exhibition, Jyotirvidya Parisanstha aims to kindle curiosity, inspire learning, and promote a deeper appreciation for the wonders of astronomy and space exploration among people of all ages and backgrounds.
