Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lead International Yoga Day Celebrations at UN Headquarters in the USA

US 19th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to the United States is generating significant anticipation as extensive preparations are underway. Upon the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, PM Modi will embark on a four-day tour from June 21 to 24, engaging in a series of events and meetings.

A prominent highlight of the visit is the celebration of the ninth edition of the annual International Yoga Day on June 21. PM Modi will lead the Yoga Day festivities, held at the UN headquarters’ North Lawn from 8 am to 9 am. The event is expected to witness the participation of individuals representing over 180 countries.

As part of the US tour, PM Modi is set to address a Joint Session of the US Congress on June 22. The same day, a state dinner hosted by President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will honor PM Modi’s presence.

Additionally, a diaspora gathering in Washington on June 23 will feature a performance by African American singer and actress Mary Millben, known for her soulful renditions of ‘Om Jai Jagadish Hare’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana.’ PM Modi will be in attendance at this event.

During his visit, PM Modi will also attend a lunch hosted by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the State Department on June 23. Apart from official engagements, the Prime Minister has planned various interactions with notable CEOs, professionals, stakeholders, and members of the Indian diaspora.

Ahead of PM Modi’s highly anticipated US tour, Uddhav Thackeray, President of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party, criticized the Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur to address the crisis in the violence-affected northeastern state. Thackeray raised concerns about domestic issues and challenged the central government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country.

The significance of PM Modi’s visit lies in the long-standing close engagement, candid exchanges, mutual respect, and admiration between the Prime Minister and President Biden. The visit is characterized by special gestures from President Biden, including hosting an official state dinner and organizing a private dinner and conversation with PM Modi. Furthermore, the First Lady will accompany PM Modi to a skilling event, and both leaders will participate in a technology-focused event, highlighting the strong relationship between the two nations.

The International Yoga Day celebration at the UN headquarters serves as a powerful symbol of unity, promoting the practice of yoga as a means to enhance physical and mental well-being on a global scale. PM Modi’s presence and leadership during this event further highlight the international recognition and popularity of yoga as an inclusive and holistic discipline.

As the world eagerly awaits this momentous occasion, the International Yoga Day celebrations in the USA will serve as a testament to the enduring power of yoga in fostering harmony, health, and unity among individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
