Maharashtra Cultural Centre Unveils Grand Festival: Celebrating Arts, Culture, and Creativity

Pune, January 25, 2024: Maharashtra Cultural Centre is set to host a special festival from Thursday, January 25, to January 28, 2024, marking the formal inauguration of the ‘Shreeram Lagoo Ranga – Avakash’ project. Conceptualized as a ‘black box’ theatre, this initiative, situated in the heart of Pune, transcends conventional theatre limitations.

Enthusiasts can immerse themselves in a diverse range of programs encompassing theatre, dance, music, and visual arts throughout the festival. The event is free and open to all, with mandatory pre-registration.

Rajesh Deshmukh, Secretary of the Maharashtra Cultural Centre, highlighted that the festival aims to celebrate the arts and creativity while formally inaugurating the ‘Shreeram Lagoo Ranga – Avakash’ project. The initiative, a collaborative effort of the Maharashtra Cultural Centre and the Lagoo Family, promises a unique experience for participants.

For pre-registration, interested individuals are requested to contact 9608088008 via WhatsApp, providing their name, the program they wish to attend, and the number of tickets required. All festival programs will be held at the Jyotsna Bhole Sabhagruha and Shreeram Lagoo Rang – Avakash at Hirabaug, Tilak Road, Pune.

The festival includes An exhibition namely ‘Vyakt Ani Avyakt’ on prints of the paintings of a well-known painter, Vasudev Gaitonde is organized to mark his birth centenary. In collaboration with the Pune Gallery of Visual Arts, this exhibition will commence on Thursday, January 25th at 6.30 pm. It will be inaugurated at the hands of a renowned architect Narendra Dengle and a painter and writer Vidya Dengle. 

The inauguration will be followed by a program called ‘Gaitondenchi Chitrakala – Ek Punarbhet.’ The exhibition timings will be from 10 am to 8 pm and is set up till 5th March at the Jyotsna Bhole Sabhagruha.

Various dance sessions have been lined up for Friday, 26th January. The first session will be Rishikesh Pawar’s ‘Therapeutic Dance Session’ from 3 pm to 5 pm. Following his dance session will be a ‘Nritya Kavya’, a dance style varieties by Guru Shama Bhate’s troupe & Evolution – Dance choreography work on installation from 3.00 to 6.00 pm. Simultaneously Guru Shama Bhate’s disciple and Kathak dancer Ameera Patankar, and Dr Swati Daithankar’s disciple and Bharatnatyam dancer Nupur Daithankar will present ‘Dance Appreciation Sessions’ from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. 

Another exciting program to look forward to for the day would be the SLR premier of ‘Chaturang ki Chaupal’ – a choreography by Guru Shama Bhate at 7 pm.

Saturday, 27 January’s program namely ‘Shreeram Lagoo Prayog Prabhav’ is being held in memory Dr Shreeram Lagoo at 5 pm. Pratima Kulkarni, Shubhangi Gokhale, Atul Pethe, Suhas Joshi and Vijay Kendre will be a part of this program, followed by a show of the play ‘To Rajhans Ek.’

An interesting lecture on ‘Bharatiya Amrut Kala Aur Mai’ by a renowned painter Yusuf from Bhopal will be held at 11 am on Sunday, 28th January. On the same day, a musical program by Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar will take place at 7 pm.

In the following week, five plays organized by the National School of Drama, Delhi at the ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ are set to take place from February 2nd to February 6th. Shows of the plays like ‘Laila Majnu’ (Hindi) on 2 February, ‘The Nights’ (Hindi) on 3 February, ‘Aniket Sandhya’ (Bengali) on 4 February, ‘Darwin’ (Marathi) on 5 February and ‘Parijaat’ (Kannada) on 6 February will take place at the newly built Shreeram Lagoo Rang – Avakash. All the shows will start at 7.30 pm every day.
