“I Love Sushi” Festival Lands in Pune: A Visual Journey into the Global Phenomenon

Pune, known for its vibrant cultural scene, is set to immerse itself in the rich tapestry of Japanese culinary heritage as it hosts the ‘I Love Sushi-Exhibition 2024.’ This unique exhibition, organized by the Japan Foundation and the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Indo-Japan Business Council, promises Punekars an immersive experience into the fascinating journey of the globally beloved delicacy – Sushi.

Running from January 8th to 20th, 2024, the exhibition will be held at MIT World Peace University (WPU), Kothrud, Chanakya Building, with entry open and free for all visitors. Unlike typical food festivals, “I Love Sushi-Exhibition 2024” aims to enlighten visitors about the origin, evolution, and cultural significance of Sushi through a captivating display of posters, photographs, and audio-visual films.

Siddharth Deshmukh, Co-Founder and President of the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC), expressed excitement about Pune being the first city to host this traveling exhibition, despite lacking a Japan Consulate or Embassy. Deshmukh highlighted the vibrant showcase the exhibition offers, unraveling the ancient origins of Sushi and exploring its transformation into a global culinary trend.

“The ‘I Love Sushi-Exhibition 2024’ presents a vibrant showcase of the metamorphosis of ‘Sushi’, unraveling its ancient origins from the moment it first graced the shores of Japan. It will display the myriad ways ‘Sushi’ has been enjoyed from traditional techniques to avant-garde creations with the help of interesting posters, photographs, and films,” Deshmukh stated.

The exhibition will feature a journey through Edo-style Sushi culture, exploring the golden era of ‘Sushi’ aficionados during the Edo period. Visitors can expect a detailed display of a typical ‘Sushi’ restaurant counter and a captivating demonstration of a Kaiten-Sushi (conveyor-belt) Sushi restaurant.

The grand inauguration is scheduled for Monday, January 8th, at 12 noon, with esteemed personalities such as Dr. Rahul Karad, Managing Trustee and Executive President, MIT Group of Institutions, Megumi Hamuro, Culture Council, Consulate of Japan in Mumbai, Tomonari Kuroda, Language Advisor, Japan Foundation, Ravi Kumar Chitnis, Vice Chancellor, MIT-WPU, and Siddharth Deshmukh in attendance.

This immersive exhibition offers Pune residents a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of Sushi, appreciating its historical roots and its evolution into a global culinary sensation.
