California Embraces Mahavir Jayanti with Launch of Digital Detox Campaign

Jain Community Leaders Initiate Movement to Rediscover Life Beyond Screens

California witnessed a momentous occasion as the State Assembly celebrated Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, alongside the launch of a digital detox campaign aimed at reclaiming time from digital distractions.

Eminent Jain community leaders gathered at the California State Assembly in Sacramento on Monday to commemorate the auspicious occasion and advocate for the principles of peace, compassion, nonviolence, and love, as espoused by Lord Mahavir.

Among the dignitaries present were Jain spiritual leader Lokesh Muni, alongside leaders of the Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA), including Prem Jain and Biren Shah. Lokesh Muni emphasized the enduring relevance of Lord Mahavira’s philosophy in addressing contemporary global challenges.

The launch of the digital detox campaign, spearheaded by community leader Ajay Bhutoria, symbolized a commitment to promoting holistic well-being in the digital age. The Anuvrat Digital Detox Movement, inspired by the teachings of Acharya Mahasharman, aims to help individuals reclaim their time from digital distractions and reconnect with life beyond screens.

Guided by Yogesh Muni and Jagrit Muni, the Anuvrat Digital Detox Movement garnered wholehearted support from California State Senator Dave Cortese and Assemblymembers Ash Kalra, Alex Lee, and Liz Ortega. The initiative underscores a collective effort to prioritize mental health and mindfulness amidst the pervasive influence of digital technology.

The celebration culminated with the recognition of Jain Acharya Lokesh Muni and Mahavir Jayanti on the assembly floor, marking a historic moment for the Jain community and underscoring the significance of promoting Jain Dharma and the Jain Way of Life in the diaspora.

Prem Jain of JAINA, representing over 200,000 members across the US and Canada, emphasized the organization’s commitment to preserving, practicing, and promoting Jain Dharma. Founded in 1981, JAINA serves as the largest organization of Jains outside India, facilitating various programs and initiatives aimed at fostering community cohesion and spiritual growth.
