Social Media Showdown: Smriti Irani vs. Kangana Ranaut on Menstruation Leave

In a recent development, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani voiced her rejection of a specific ‘paid leave’ policy for menstruating women, asserting that menstruation should not be considered a ‘handicap.’ Reacting to Irani’s statements, actor Kangana Ranaut took to social media, debunking the myth of a ‘working woman’ and emphasizing the inherent work carried out by women throughout history.

Smriti Irani’s Stance: Irani, responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, expressed, “As a menstruating woman, menstruation and the menstruation cycle are not a handicap; it’s a natural part of women’s life journey…We should not propose issues where women are denied equal opportunities just because somebody who does not menstruate has a particular viewpoint towards menstruation.”

Kangana Ranaut’s Counterargument: Taking a firm stance, Kangana Ranaut shared her perspective on Instagram Stories, stating, “Working women are a myth, there has not been a single non-working woman in the history of mankind.” She further emphasized that women have always been engaged in various forms of work, be it farming, household chores, or raising children. Ranaut argued against the necessity for paid leave for periods unless there is a specific medical condition.

Social Media Advocacy: Kangana Ranaut, known for using social media to express her opinions on diverse subjects, has once again utilized the platform to share her views on women’s issues. Her statements often stir discussions, addressing societal norms and challenging established perceptions.
