Poacher” Sets the Stage: Alia Bhatt and Richie Mehta Unveil a Riveting Tale with Global Aspirations

In a dazzling premiere event in London, Richie Mehta’s highly anticipated web-series “Poacher” took center stage, with Alia Bhatt stealing the scene in an elegant black and gold bordered sari. As the executive producer of the series, Bhatt, alongside Mehta, provided a glimpse into the thrilling narrative that revolves around a group of individuals risking their lives to dismantle the largest elephant ivory poaching ring in India’s history.

“Poacher” made its UK debut with the screening of the first two episodes, previously showcased at Sundance 2023. The Amazon original, set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from February 23 in multiple languages, promises a compelling storyline based on true events. The series, produced by QC Entertainment, features an ensemble cast including Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.

Mehta, an Emmy award winner renowned for the acclaimed “Delhi Crime” series, returns with a gripping thriller that delves into the dark underbelly of illegal ivory trade in India. The series sheds light on the aftermath of human cruelty on elephants, emphasizing the need to preserve natural habitats and ecosystems.

At the trailer launch, Alia Bhatt expressed her deep connection to the project, stating, “I want to be part of a project that moves you, stirs some sort of a conversation.” She shared her initial encounter with Mehta in 2020 and how the series, based on real-life incidents, captivated her as a viewer.

Mehta, in an interview with Variety, highlighted the global significance of “Poacher,” stating, “This story is particularly residing in India, but where this can go can be anywhere and everywhere.” The series, set to release in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil, aims to address the broader implications of wildlife crimes on both local communities and the environment.

Nimisha Sajayan and Roshan Mathew lead the cast, portraying characters engaged in a battle against wildlife crime. The narrative, inspired by real-life incidents, promises to captivate audiences with its intense and thought-provoking storyline.
