a recent development, Netflix is preparing for the release of the extended cut of Ranbir Kapoor’s movie “Animal” following the resolution of a legal dispute between co-producers CINE 1 Studios and T-Series.
The Delhi High Court received information about the agreement, marking the end of the alleged contractual breaches that had initially prompted CINE 1 Studios to seek a delay in the OTT launch. The concerns were related to issues of equal ownership and certain rights.
Before the movie’s theatrical release, reports emerged that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had instructed the removal of close-up shots depicting intimate scenes between the characters played by Ranbir and Tripti Dimri. It remains to be seen what will be included in the Netflix version, as Netflix releases typically do not depend on CBFC certification. The movie is scheduled to start streaming on January 26.
With the resolution of the disputes, Netflix now has the opportunity to showcase the extended version, following a release strategy similar to that of other Bollywood films on the platform.
