Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has taken legal action against an unidentified impersonator who created fraudulent social media accounts in her name, leading to deceptive job offers and false promises. The actress filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Khar Police after being alerted by a contact within the film industry about the impersonator’s activities on WhatsApp.
In a statement, Vidya Balan clarified that neither the communication nor the associated phone number belonged to her. The FIR details the deceptive actions undertaken by the impersonator, who exploited the fake accounts to mislead individuals within the film industry.
The case has been registered under Section 66(C) of the IT Act, addressing the dishonest use of another person’s unique identification features in the digital space.
This incident sheds light on the vulnerability of celebrities in the digital age and emphasizes the need to safeguard personal information online. Vidya Balan has urged her followers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity associated with her name on social media platforms.
Despite the unfortunate impersonation incident, Vidya Balan remains focused on her upcoming projects. She is set to star alongside Ileana D’Cruz in the romantic comedy ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar,’ scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
