Ayesha Kanga Reflects on her Breakthrough Year in 2023, Unveiling the Unprepared Journey to Fame

In the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, one name that became a beacon of talent and versatility in 2023 was Ayesha Kanga. An actress, model, stylist, graphic designer, and more, Ayesha’s breakout role as Yashika in Netflix’s Class catapulted her into the limelight. As we step into 2024, Ayesha candidly shares her thoughts on the whirlwind of 2023 and the unforeseen challenges that accompanied her newfound fame.

When asked about her breakthrough, Ayesha initially downplays its significance, describing it as the “final push into the ceiling before something insane unfurls.” However, reflecting on Class’s unexpected success, she acknowledges the transformative impact it had on her life. The show, an adaptation of the hit Spanish drama ‘The Elite,’ resonated with audiences, earning a spot on year-end lists and proving to be a surprise hit.

“Kids from all these various parts with nobody to our name, we were able to make a dent in the entertainment industry,” Ayesha reflects on the collective success of the relatively new cast of Class.

Despite the show’s acclaim, Ayesha admits she was unprepared for the magnitude of change that followed. “I always thought, who are we? Why would people tune in to watch us? Some were intuitive and felt it was something big, but I was a realist,” she shares. The unexpected explosion of Class propelled her into the entertainment world, a transition she humorously describes as “nuts.”

The 28-year-old actress emphasizes the mental and physical toll that comes with being in the public eye. Expressing newfound respect for performers who have spent years in the limelight, Ayesha acknowledges the exhausting nature of being constantly under scrutiny. “Being in the public eye is exhausting. I will never make fun of a celebrity again. It’s so much work, mentally too. It’s a lot of work,” she remarks, highlighting the challenges of navigating fame.

However, Ayesha clarifies that her acknowledgment of the challenges doesn’t equate to complaining. “I am having an absolute blast! By no means should it sound like I’m whingeing. I am just more grateful,” she affirms.

As she navigates the entertainment landscape post-Class, Ayesha notes a shift in how she is perceived. Despite being the same person with the same skill set and interests, she observes that people now take her more seriously. This shift has allowed her to explore multiple facets of her creativity, including graphic designing and styling.

For Ayesha, the timing of her breakthrough couldn’t have been more opportune. “Right now is a great time to wear many hats, to be a young actor who does a lot of things. It could not have come at a more opportune moment for me,” she concludes, embracing the diverse opportunities her newfound fame has brought forth.
