Aquaman 2 Turmoil: Amber Heard’s Social Media Follower Count Plummets

Amber Heard, known for her role as Mera in Aquaman 2, is currently facing a sudden decline in her Instagram followers. This unexpected turn of events appears to be linked to a recent post where she expressed gratitude to her fans for their support amid challenges during the movie’s production.

The actress, who initially boasted over 5.3 million followers, experienced a substantial drop in her follower count shortly after her Instagram update on January 4, 2024. Analysts from Not Just Analytics reported that the decline is part of a larger public relations effort that not only fails to improve Heard’s image but may be exacerbating the negative sentiment surrounding her.

In the post, Heard shared behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Aquaman 2 and thanked her fans for their overwhelming support despite production obstacles. However, it seems that the post may have backfired, with thousands of followers distancing themselves from the actress.

Heard’s troubles with Aquaman 2 have been ongoing, as she previously claimed that Warner Bros. reduced her role in the sequel due to her highly publicized divorce from Johnny Depp. She also expressed frustration over script changes, noting that action scenes involving her character, Mera, were either reduced or entirely removed in later script versions.

Director James Wan addressed the controversy, defending the decision to minimize Heard’s role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He explained that the sequel was intended to be more of a buddy comedy than an action-adventure romantic comedy, which was the focus of the first film. Wan acknowledged Heard’s concerns, emphasizing that actors might not fully understand the director’s vision behind the scenes.

As Amber Heard navigates through the challenges surrounding her role in Aquaman 2, her recent Instagram post appears to have further intensified the backlash against her, resulting in a significant loss of followers on the platform.
