Taiwan’s Government Scholarship Awarded to 120 Indian Students: A Step Towards Global Education

Taipei, August 8th, 2023: In a significant move towards fostering international education and cultural exchange, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) recently celebrated the awarding of Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship to Indian students. A total of 120 students emerged as recipients of these prestigious scholarships, opening doors for them to pursue higher education in Taiwan.

The scholarships distributed include 52 Taiwan Scholarships and 68 Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarships. These scholarships are facilitated by the Ministry of Education Taiwan, aiming to encourage Indian students to undertake educational journeys in Taiwan and explore diverse career opportunities.

The Ministry of Education Taiwan offers two categories of scholarships annually – the Taiwan Scholarship for degree-seeking programs and the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for Mandarin language learning. Through these scholarships, the Ministry aims to not only provide financial support but also exceptional educational opportunities for Indian students to broaden their horizons and contribute to their personal and professional growth.

Among the scholarship recipients, 52 students were awarded the Taiwan Scholarship, a fully-funded grant for further education in Taiwan. This scholarship encompasses various academic levels, including 17 for PhD degrees, 31 for Master’s degrees, and 4 for Bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, 68 students were granted the Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship, enabling them to engage in intensive language courses lasting 3, 6, or 12 months at Taiwanese universities.

The cumulative value of scholarships awarded to Indian students by the Ministry of Education Taiwan this year amounts to around Rs 17 crores. Notably, students from other South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Nepal also received scholarships to pursue degrees in Taiwan, marking a truly global and inclusive educational initiative.

This year’s scholarship distribution represents a landmark achievement, showcasing the commitment of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education towards enhancing global education opportunities for Indian students. The recipients of these scholarships come from various states across India, demonstrating the widespread impact of this initiative. The diversity of states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Delhi, showcases the nationwide reach of this program.

The success of these scholars is a testament to their dedication and the valuable support provided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. The scholarships not only pave the way for academic achievements but also encourage cross-cultural understanding and global perspectives among Indian students.
