Inspiring Change: Prof G S Mani’s Award-Winning Efforts in Education and Literacy

In a momentous recognition of his transformative contributions to education and national literacy, Prof G S Mani was awarded the esteemed IEEE Ulrich L Rhode Humanitarian Technical Field Project during an International Conference in Ahmedabad on December 13, 2023. Prof Mani, a resident of Konark Indrayu Enclave society on NIBM Undri road, received the award, which not only included a citation but also carried a grant of $10,000 for the IEEE Pune Section.

The award ceremony, attended by luminaries in the field, saw the presence of notable individuals, including Prashant Joshi, Dr. Neha Sharma, Abhijit Khurape, and Dr. Mandar Bhawalkar, who joined Prof Mani in receiving this prestigious recognition.

Project Eu-Reka: Empowering Education

Prof Mani’s remarkable journey in education has been marked by his leadership in Project Eu-Reka, an initiative by the IEEE Pune Section. This initiative focuses on reducing drop-out levels in both rural and urban schools by leveraging the efforts of college students from engineering institutions who deliver motivational talks.

Under Prof Mani’s guidance, Eu-Reka became a national movement, involving over 1500 college students and impacting more than 50,000 school children across 12 Indian states and union territories. The project garnered appreciation from education experts, including Dr. Kasturi Rangan, Former Chief of ISRO, and Dr. Sahasrabudhe, Former Chairman of AICTE, who commended its role in uplifting national literacy levels.

Dedication to the Cause:

During the award ceremony, Prof Mani dedicated the recognition to the collective efforts of everyone associated with Project Eu-Reka, acknowledging the contributions of IEEE Pune Section members, mentors, college students, and school teachers. He also extended gratitude to the 50,000+ school children who actively participated, making Eu-Reka a significant force in promoting education across the nation.

The IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) is a professional organization with a global presence, boasting more than 45,000 members across 19 countries.
