AICTE Denies Release of Eligible Numbers for Four I2IT Students, Raising Concerns over Academic Future

June 13, 2023 – The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has refused to release the eligible numbers (ENs) of four students enrolled at the International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT), sparking uncertainty about their academic prospects. The students had secured admission through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP), but the institute mistakenly categorized their admissions under the management quota. As a result, the AICTE has declined to issue the ENs, jeopardizing the students’ ability to complete the examination process for the second semester and potentially leading to automatic cancellation of their admission.

According to AICTE regulations, ENs are not provided once the CAP quota has been fulfilled. Consequently, without the ENs, the affected students cannot proceed with the examination form for the second semester. This situation has left both the students and their parents deeply concerned about potential academic setbacks.

Affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), I2IT offers undergraduate programs in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics and Telecommunication. The admission process for these courses includes both the CAP process and an in-house management quota.

An anonymous parent expressed their worries, stating, “My son secured admission through the CAP round for the first year without any issues. However, problems have arisen concerning the EN for the second semester. Without this number, it is impossible to complete the examination form. We have approached the college principal and other officials multiple times, but we have yet to receive a satisfactory response. Our concern is primarily focused on our children’s academic careers. There seems to be something suspicious about the admission process, and we are in need of assistance.”

Another parent shared their frustration, saying, “We are uncertain why the authorities have refused to address the specific issues related to our children’s admission. We followed all the procedures during the CAP round last year. Our children have already submitted all the required documents and paid the fees. So, why has the issue of ENs arisen in the second semester? We are taking up the matter with the relevant authorities. All students have already completed the examination form, but my daughter was unable to do so today.”

A complainant, requesting anonymity, alleged that the institute violated AICTE regulations by incorrectly categorizing CAP students as management quota students, resulting in the EN issue. The complainant stated, “Since the first-semester examination was conducted at the institute level, there was no need for ENs. However, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and the AICTE issue ENs for students in the second and third semesters. If students fail to obtain their ENs, they will not be allowed to attempt subsequent exams. I have already filed a complaint with the DTE and the AICTE, urging them to investigate the institute’s approval for fraudulent practices.”

Madhuri Reddy, faculty and head of the admission department at the institute, commented, “This matter does not fall under my jurisdiction, and I am not fully aware of the entire situation.”

Meanwhile, Vaishali Patil, the principal of I2IT, stated, “There is no issue concerning the ENs. This is an internal matter that we will not disclose to the media. We will resolve the matter through discussions with the parents. I urge all parents to directly contact the institute for any concerns. I will refrain from making further comments at this time.”
