Pune: Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria Assumes Command as Commandant of MILIT Girinagar

Khadakwasla, 1st July 2023: The Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Girinagar, Pune, renowned for its flagship Defence Services Technical Staff Course and other technology-intensive programs for the tri-services, has announced a change in its leadership. Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria has taken over as the Commandant, effective from 1st July 2023.

Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria brings with him a distinguished military career spanning over three decades. He is an Electronics & Communication Engineer from REC Durgapur and a graduate of DSSC (Wellington), DIAT (Pune), CDM (Hyderabad), and the prestigious NDC (New Delhi). With extensive command and staff appointments in various maintenance and operational establishments, he has garnered expertise in a wide range of systems, including SAGW, Fighter aircraft, Electronic Warfare, Air Armament, UAV payloads, Communication Equipment, Arrester Barriers, Modern Airfield Infrastructure, and AFNET. His valuable contributions have significantly contributed to the growth and development of the Indian Air Force. Prior to assuming command at MILIT, he served as the Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Kanheri Hills, where he played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the AFNET 2.0 upgrade. With his exceptional leadership skills, coupled with his deep understanding of technology and innovation, Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria is expected to steer MILIT toward new horizons of excellence and progress.

Established in 2015, the Military Institute of Technology is a premier technical educational institution operating under the purview of the HQ Integrated Defence Staff (IDS). It has consistently nurtured exceptional talent in the field of defence technology, research, and development. MILIT is renowned for its comprehensive curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and collaborations with leading national and international defence organizations.

In his new role as Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria will focus on further strengthening MILIT’s academic programs, promoting research and innovation, and fostering collaboration with industry and academia. Under his visionary leadership, MILIT aims to continue producing highly skilled technocrats and professionals who will make significant contributions to the defence technology ecosystem of the nation while bolstering the capabilities of the Armed Forces.

Air Vice Marshal Vivek Singh Balouria takes over from Air Vice Marshal V Rajasekhar, who served as the Commandant of MILIT for the past one and a half years. AVM V Rajasekhar’s tenure witnessed several notable achievements, including the introduction of digitization in training through a revolutionary Learning Management System, expert talks on cutting-edge defence technologies and national security strategy, skill enhancement for student officers, and the establishment of strategic partnerships with renowned institutions such as DIAT and MIT WPU universities.
