Badrinath, India – In a momentous revelation on Basant Panchami, the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) declared that the sacred portals of Badrinath Dham will swing open on May 12, 2024, at 6:00 AM. The decision, made official on February 14, 2024, during Mahashivratri, brings much-awaited news for pilgrims and devotees preparing for the Char Dham Yatra.
The Char Dham, comprising Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri, collectively draw millions of pilgrims annually. Last year, the Char Dham pilgrimage set a remarkable record by hosting over 5.6 billion devotees, underscoring its significance as a sacred journey for spiritual seekers.
Typically, the Char Dham pilgrimage season commences in April or May, concluding in October or November as the winter months approach. In 2023, the pilgrimage witnessed a substantial turnout, with nearly 75 lakh pilgrims embarking on the journey. Among them, 18 lakh visited Badrinath Dham, while 19 lakh made their way to Kedarnath Dham.
Following the announcement of the Badrinath Dham portal opening, the BKTC has also fixed the date for the Tel-Kalash Yatra on April 25, 2024. Ajendra Ajay, the President of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, shared, “The royal priest Acharya Krishan Prasad Uniyal, after offering prayers at the royal palace in Narendra Nagar, read out the Almanac and declared the auspicious dates for the opening of Badrinath shrine portals. Maharani Rajyalakshmi Shah, Member of Parliament (MP) from Tehri Lok Sabha Seat, was present during this significant announcement.”
This announcement marks the beginning of the spiritual journey for pilgrims, offering them an opportunity to experience the divine aura of Badrinath Dham starting May 12, 2024.
