Ramcharitmanas Print Editions Vanish from Gita Press Shelves Amidst Overwhelming Demand Ahead of Ram Temple Inauguration

As anticipation builds for the grand inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, an unexpected surge in demand for the revered Ramcharitmanas print editions has left Gita Press, the renowned Gorakhpur-based publisher, grappling with empty shelves.

With the imminent inauguration ceremony approaching, the press finds itself unable to meet the overwhelming demand, prompting the institution to offer the web edition of Ramcharitmanas as a free download on its website for the next 15 days. This move aims to accommodate the fervent devotees seeking the sacred text.

Established in 1923, Gita Press has been a stalwart in publishing, contributing significantly to Hindu religious literature. The institution, despite financial challenges, has stood firm in its commitment to promoting the principles of Sanatana Dharma and the dissemination of sacred texts.

Gita Press, once on the verge of closure in 2015, experienced a renaissance, buoyed by the religious enthusiasm accompanying the ascent of the BJP. Prime Minister Modi, during the centenary celebrations in 2022, lauded Gita Press, acknowledging its significance as “not less than any temple” and a guiding force for humanity.

Lalmani Tripathi, the manager of Gita Press, expressed regret over the inability to produce approximately 4 lakh copies of Ramcharitmanas on short notice. Tripathi also shared, “Currently, we are uploading Ramcharitmanas on the Gita Press website, and from Tuesday, it will be available for free download for 15 days, allowing up to 50,000 people to download simultaneously.”

As the sacred text experiences unprecedented demand, the publishing house remains committed to accommodating the spiritual needs of devotees, with plans to scale up capacity for downloads and extend the service period if the demand persists.
