Pune’s Sindhi Community Gears Up for Cheti Chand Celebration in Yerwada

Festivities to Mark Sindhi New Year and Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Sai Jhulelal

Pune, India – The Sindhi community in Pune is set to celebrate Cheti Chand, the Sindhi new year, and the 1074th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Sai Jhulelal on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Deccan College Banquet Hall, located in Yerwada. The announcement was made by Ashok Waswani, President of Sindhu Seva Dal (SSD), during a press conference.

Joining Waswani at the press conference were past President Suresh Jethwani, along with other members of the SSD, including Vijay Daswani, Deepak Wadhavani, Sachin Talreja, Treasurer Rajendra Pherwani, and Public Relations Officer Devendra Chawla.

Waswani revealed that this year’s chief guest for the celebration will be Srichand Aswani, Founder & Director of Aswani Promoters & Builders. Notable Sindhi personalities like Justice (Retd) & former Lokayukta of Maharashtra M. L. Tahaliyani and Dr. Lachmandas Pherwani, Former Associate Professor at B.J. Medical College & Sasoon Hospital, will also be honored during the event.

Jethwani detailed the program, stating that festivities will commence with the offering of Pooja Arti to Sai Jhulelal at 7:00 pm, followed by a lineup of social and cultural programs, as well as non-stop entertainment. The event will feature a live concert by the Sindhi Orchestra led by Rockstar singer Shubham Nathani and his troupe from Mumbai, alongside versatile singer Drusthi Kukreja from Nagpur, Master Harshal from Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and stand-up comedian and social media influencer Bhagyashri Daryani from Jaipur. Various cultural and young generation dance performances by GND Group of Pune are also scheduled.

Highlighting the significance of the day, Waswani mentioned World Sindh Language Day, celebrated on April 10th, which commemorates the Indo-Aryan language of the historical Sindh region in the Western part of the Indian continent.

The event will be hosted by Mohit Shewani from Mumbai, dubbed as Sindhi’s Kapil Sharma, followed by a Preeti Bhoj for all devotees. Distinguished members of the Sindhi community will grace the festival as guests, with prominent personalities being honored.

Sindhu Seva Dal, a non-political, social, and cultural organization for Sindhis living in Pune and its outskirts, established about 37 years ago, aims to provide a platform for social and cultural activities for the Sindhi community. Their goal is to utilize the expertise, experience, and skills of the community to build a prosperous Sindhi community through advocacy and capacity building, fostering self-sufficiency.
