Sinhagad Road Case Highlights Growing Threat of Online Harassment
In a concerning turn of events, the Sinhagad Road police in Pune have filed a case against a man from Udgir, Latur district, for allegedly extorting Rs 4,000 from his female friend under the threat of exposing her private videos.
An officer from the Sinhagad Road police station stated, “According to the complainant, the suspect coerced the woman into removing her clothes during video calls, surreptitiously recording the acts without her consent.”
The accused stands further accused of fabricating a fake profile of the woman on a social media platform and posting objectionable content, subjecting her to prolonged harassment over the course of the past two years.
The victim finally approached the police on Saturday after enduring persistent demands for money from the suspect. The suspect now faces charges under sections 354-C (Voyeurism), 354-D (Stalking), 384 (Extortion), and 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), alongside other relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
