Three College Students Arrested in Pune for Ganja Trafficking: 56 kg of Contraband Seized

Pune, 19th June 2023: In a significant operation conducted by the anti-narcotics squad of the Pune Crime Branch, three college-going students hailing from Gadchiroli district were apprehended on Sunday in the Pune-Ahmednagar Road area for their involvement in the illegal sale of ganja. The police seized a substantial quantity of ganja weighing 56 kg, with an estimated value of 11 lakh and 70 thousand rupees.

The detained individuals have been identified as Ram Rajesh Bais (20) and Nikesh Pitambar Anole (22) from Gadchiroli, along with Hrithik Kailas Tembhurne (21) from Bhandara district. An FIR has been registered against them at the Chandannagar police station, marking the initiation of legal proceedings.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Thopte provided details about the operation, stating that the personnel of the Anti-Narcotics Squad-2 of the Crime Branch were on routine patrol duty in the Kharadi area on Sunday. During their patrol, Constables Chetan Gaikwad and Ravindra Rokde received credible information indicating that three individuals from Gadchiroli were planning to sell ganja in the Chandannagar vicinity. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the police team strategically laid a trap, leading to the successful detention of the three suspects.

A subsequent search conducted by the authorities revealed the presence of marijuana. The police confiscated 55 kg of ganja, along with a mobile phone believed to be associated with their illegal activities.

The arrest and seizure highlight the relentless efforts of the Pune Crime Branch in combating the sale and distribution of illicit substances within the city. The Anti-Narcotics Squad remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community by diligently investigating and apprehending individuals involved in drug-related offenses.
