Nagpur, July 14(UNI) Nagpur police have found links between terror convict Afsar Pasha and Jayesh Pujari, who was arrested for allegedly making threatening phone calls to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, a senior police official told UNI on Friday.

Afsar Pasha is currently in Karnataka’s jail after being convicted in a Bengaluru terror attack case, the official said.

Jayesh Pujari alias Kantha and Shakir, was earlier lodged in the Belagavi prison along with Pasha.

On January 14, Pujari had made a threat call to Gadkari’s Nagpur office demanding Rs 100 crore and claiming to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang.

He was then lodged in a jail in neighbouring Karnataka, the official said.

On March 21,Pujari made another threatening call to Gadkari demanding Rs 10 crore.

On March 28, Pujari was arrested and brought to Nagpur from a jail in Belagavi and the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was invoked against him.

Nagpur police’s Investigation revealed a connection between Jayesh Pujari and terrorist Afsar Pasha alias Bashiruddin Noor Ahmed , who was earlier involved in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the official further said.

Jayesh Pujari had ties with Pasha, convicted in the 2012 case of recruiting terrorists for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Jammu and Kashmir(J&K), the official said.

Pasha was also involved in the December 2005 terror attack at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and is currently serving a jail term in Belagavi, the official further said.

A team of Nagpur police has been sent to Belagavi to arrest Afsar Pasha, he added.
