The Great Flipkart Heist: Ex-Employee Executes Daring INR 21 Lakh Robbery with a Toy Gun

In a daring act of betrayal, a disgruntled former employee of Flipkart orchestrated a heist, making off with a staggering INR 21 lakh from the company’s Sonipat office. The audacious robbery, executed with a toy gun, has left the ecommerce giant in shock and has already led to the arrest of two perpetrators, with the hunt for the third still underway.

Unraveling the Heist Plot

The main accused, Sumit, had been terminated from his position at Flipkart a month before hatching the robbery plan. Alongside accomplices Anil Tiger and Sandeep, he executed the heist on October 16, capitalizing on his insider knowledge of the increased cash flow at the Sonipat office due to Diwali festivities. The trio exploited this information to target the premises and carry out the heist using a toy pistol to intimidate employees.

Arrests and Partial Recovery

Prompt action by the Gohana Police led to the arrest of Sumit and Anil Tiger, though the third accused, Sandeep, remains at large. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have managed to recover INR 6.3 lakh, a car, an axe, and the toy gun used in the heist from the arrested individuals. The search for Sandeep continues, as law enforcement strives to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Rising Trend of E-commerce Heists

This incident follows a concerning trend of criminal activities involving ecommerce platforms and their employees. Just this week, a Flipkart godown in Cuttack, Odisha, fell victim to armed masked miscreants who made away with a substantial amount of cash. In a separate incident in June 2023, 11 individuals, including an ecommerce delivery executive, were charged by Delhi Police for a daylight heist inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel, where INR 25 lakh was stolen.

These cases highlight the challenges faced by ecommerce companies in safeguarding their operations and assets, necessitating enhanced security measures to thwart internal and external threats.
