Chhatrapati Sambhaijnagar, Jul 29 (UNI) An unfortunate incident has come to light at Ranjangaon Khuri in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s Paithan taluka, where a young farmer couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in front of their one-and-a-half-year-old girl child.
On Friday, the farmer couple went to work in the field, where they committed suicide by hanging themselves from a tree in the evening.
The couple, identified as Raju Damodhar Khandagale (28) and his wife Archana (26), has taken extreme step due to poverty and financial hardship, police said.
Khandagale owned two acres of ancestral farm, but whatever he produced on this land was not sufficient to meet the needs of the family consisting of parents and two brothers.
So, Raju was farming the land for a farmer in the village with Bataidari system — an agricultural practice where a landowner lends his land to another who spends money and labour and the produce is shared.
But last year, there was damage due to heavy rains and this year too, there was not expected rain even in July.
In such a situation, due to financial hardship, Raju Khandagale was depressed, sources added.
