Special Court Seeks Explanation on Distinction Between Polygraph and Voice Layer Analysis Tests in DRDO Scientist Pradeep Kurulkar’s Case

Pune, June 26, 2023: The Special Court in Pune, overseeing the case of DRDO scientist Pradeep Kurulkar, has raised a query regarding the distinction between a polygraph test and a voice layer analysis test. The court has directed the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to provide clarification on this matter before the next hearing, scheduled for June 30.

During the hearing on Monday, the ATS sought permission from the court to conduct these tests as part of their investigation. However, the court expressed the need for a clear explanation regarding the specific nature and differences between the polygraph test and the voice layer analysis test.

As the ATS officer failed to provide a satisfactory response regarding the distinction, the court instructed the ATS to present a comprehensive clarification before proceeding with the hearing.

Pradeep Kurulkar, a DRDO scientist, was arrested on May 4 on charges of allegedly sharing classified information with Pakistani intelligence operatives. He is currently in judicial custody. As the custody period ended on June 25, a court hearing was conducted on Monday to address further proceedings.

Considering Kurulkar’s lack of cooperation during the investigation, the ATS applied to the court to conduct both a polygraph test and a voice layer analysis test. The ATS submitted the application, and during the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Fargade requested that Kurulkar undergo these tests.

In response, the court sought clarification on the purpose and previous usage of the voice layer analysis test. Lawyers representing Kurulkar stated that their client has declined to undergo both tests and will present their opposition in court. The court will further deliberate on the matter during the upcoming hearing.
