Seven get 10 yrs RI in robbery & abduction case

Kolhapur, Aug 29 (UNI) The district and sessions court here on Tuesday sentenced seven men to suffer 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of robbery of Rs 2,52 crore in cash and abduction of two men in June 2019.

Public prosecutor Amit Mahadeshwar told the court that on 14 June 2019, complainant and his colleague, both employees of a jeweller’s shop, were on way to their shop from Mumbai in a car with cash of Rs 2,52,01,200 along with three kilogram of gold.

At that time, a gang of eight robbers stopped their car at Rajendranagar, a suburb of the city, and forcibly abducted both of them along with their car.

The gang members released them at Bambavade village on Kolhapur-Ratnagiri highway but they fled away with cash of Rs 2,52,01,200 and three Kg gold, the court was told.

Later, police arrested seven of them in search operation, while one of their accomplice was absconded.

During the trial, the court examined total 18 witnesses.

After examining all 18 witnesses, Additional Sessions Judge S S Tambe found all eight accused guilty under sections 395, 364(A), 341, 42, 120(B) of Indian Penal Code and sentenced seven of them to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 40,500 on each of seven accused, it was stated.

Accused are Laxman Ankush Pawar (29), Gundaji Tanaji Nandiwakw (29), Avinash Bajrang Mote (29), Akshay Laxman Mohite (29), Indrajeet Bapu Desai (25), Rajiv alias Zumrya Baliram Kadam (28), Satish alias Bhavdya Dnynoba More (31) and absconded Somnath Yallappa Mane.
