Pune : In a distressing incident, a resident of BT Kawade Road in Pune has become the latest victim of cyber fraud, losing a staggering Rs 10 lakh between October 2023 and January 2024. The woman fell prey to a fraudulent scheme promising a Rs 10 lakh loan under the ‘PM Rojgar Yojana’ (PMRY), a central government initiative aimed at promoting employment opportunities.
The victim initiated legal action by filing a complaint with the cybercrime police, leading to the registration of an FIR with the Mundhwa police on Monday. Senior Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, sharing insights into the case, stated, “The crooks targeted the woman through a phone call, claiming they could assist her in securing a Rs 10 lakh loan at a low rate of interest, using the guise of the PM Rojgar Yojana.”
Elaborating on the modus operandi, Bolkotgi explained, “The fraudsters enticed the victim by promising a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh, and she was informed that she would only be required to pay the EMI for the remaining Rs 7 lakh after a grace period of six months.” However, the situation took a fraudulent turn when the criminals coerced the victim into transferring money to different accounts under the pretense of covering various charges associated with the loan processing.
