Pune: Three held, four minors detained for killing senior citizen to fulfil addiction

Pune: The Local Crime Branch of the Rural Police have arrested three persons for robbing a senior citizen of his mobile phone and then killing him.

Four minors have also been detained in the case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Vilas Baba Wagh (20), Prakash Baba Wagh (19) and Bhima Ganesh Hilam (25), all residents of Otur, taluka Junnar of the district.

The victim has been identified as Nabab Ahmed Shaikh (72), a resident of Otur. He was a daily wager in the onion market

Shaikh was found dead in the onion market on Saturday (June 8). His body was sent for post-mortem. It was found that he was strangled to death. His son Shadab, a resident of Ahilyanagar district, lodged a complaint at the Otur Police Station.

The Rural Police launched an investigation after learning about the incident. They checked CCTV footage of the area. They saw some persons moving suspiciously on the market premises before the incident took place. Later, they detained Wagh, Hilam and the four minor boys. They tried to rob Shaikh’s mobile phone to fulfil their addiction. When he resisted their attempts, they killed him. The accused admitted to the murder.

Under the guidance of SP Pankaj Deshmukh, Addl SP Ramesh Chopde, SDPO Ravindra Chowdhar, a team comprising PI (Local Crime Branch) Avinash Shilimkar, API Lahu Thate, PSI Ajit Patil, police personnel Deepak Sable, Raju Momin, Atul Dere, Sandip Vare, Akshay Navale, Akshay Supe, Mahesh Pathare, Devidas Khedkar, Jyotiram Pawar, Balshiram Bhawari, and Nadim Tadvi took part in the action.
