Pune Police Uncover International Drug Racket, Seize ₹3.5 Crores Worth of Mephedrone, Arrest Three Suspects

In a major breakthrough, the Pune Police’s Crime Branch conducted a successful operation on Monday, dismantling an international drug racket and seizing Mephedrone (MD) drugs valued at ₹3.5 crores. Three suspects, Vaibhav alias Pintya Bharat Mane, Ajay Amarnath Karosia, and Haider Sheikh, were arrested, marking a significant milestone in the fight against drug trafficking.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, along with other key officials, emphasized the city’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics during a press briefing. The operation was led by Police Constable Vitthal Salunkhe from the Crime Branch’s unit one.

The breakthrough occurred when Salunkhe received crucial information leading to the interception of Vaibhav and Ajay while allegedly transporting mephedrone in Somwar Peth. Following their arrest, the investigative team extracted valuable intelligence, revealing Haider Shaikh’s involvement in the drug supply chain.

In a swift operation, multiple teams were dispatched to apprehend Haider, who was found in possession of mephedrone worth one crore (500 grams). Additionally, another half crore (750 grams) of the illicit substance was discovered in his salt godown, raising suspicions of potential adulteration.

The ongoing investigation aims to unravel the complexities of the drug distribution network and determine whether the seized mephedrone was being adulterated with salt before distribution.

This successful operation highlights the Pune Police’s dedication to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. Through sustained vigilance and collaborative efforts, law enforcement authorities are working to eradicate such criminal enterprises and maintain peace and order in the region.
