Pune: Police constable cheated of Rs 32.22 lakh by a con man on the pretext of extra returns in trading

Pune: A case of cheating a police constable has come to light. The constable was informed by the con man that if he invests from a trading website he will get a huge return. This cheating has been done by contacting through unknown mobile numbers and WhatsApp. The incident took place between 25th May 2023 and 18th August 2023. A case has been registered in the cyber police station in this matter.

According to the police, the complainant was added to WhatsApp by promising that he would get huge returns if he invested through the website. The complainant was then lured to invest money by showing that he had made a profit on the basis of a fake website by initially offering some returns. After that, total bitcoins worth Rs 32.22 lakh were taken from the complainant.

Wife’s Jewellery was pawned

Actually, when the complainant went to withdraw the money it was not withdrawn so he asked about it but he received no response. As soon as he realised that he was financially cheated he rushed to the police station. In this regard, a case has been registered against unknown persons at the cyber police station in Shivajinagar. Further investigation is being conducted by senior woman police inspector Minal Supe-Patil. The complainant had borrowed money from relatives to invest the money in Bitcoin. Also his wife’s jewellery was also mortgaged and the money was invested in trading.
